I bought a Hot Dawg 75k heater for my garage last spring and finaaly getting around to hooking it up. Can i run this off a 100lb tank? Not going to be used all the time just when im out there a few hours a week. Also would i need some sort of regulator?

It will run off 100# tank, yes you need a regulator....... Probly only run around 20 hrs on a tank though.

I've got a 100k btu running off a 100# bottle. Works fine.....

The only thing you may worry about is if it gets really cold, like below 10 degrees outside, it may not vaporize quick enough in a smaller tank to keep up with the heater.

I used to deliver propane & what a lot of trailers used was double 100# cylinders which ran everything in the trailer. Be aware though that this is much more expensive per gallon than having a bulk tank such as a 120 gal or larger. This extra cost added up over time can make quite a bit of difference in what it costs you to run it over a winter.

Just curious.. how big is your garage ? I put in a 45 Hot Dawg 2 years ago in my 22 x 30 thats insulated and I find its overkill. I could have used the 30. I keep the thermostat set at 55 all winter so the metal doesnt sweat and Im using a 100# tank. I dont remember how many times it was filled last year but it wasnt that bad. I think it would have been less with the 30 though. If its 15 outside and I turn it up to 65 to work its so warm you can work out there in shorts in about 5 minutes.

Mines going to be real over kill as my garage is 24x24 but for what i paid for the heater was less than a 30k would have cost. I plan on building bigger at some point so i wont have to buy bigger later. What kind of regulator are you using on yours?

I had a friend of mine install the heater and he just left an elbow sticking out of the side of the garage. I trenched from the side to around the back and had the local propane company put in a buried line. The regulator was installed by them and its right by the tank. I think it has something to do with the type of line that was used. The guy told me that if I didnt want that type of line the regulator would have to be mounted to the side of the garage where the line goes in. I wanted the propane tank behind the garage for aesthetics.
