Propane Turbo Heater Problem

I got a propane turbo heater that has variable BTU (65,000-100,000) for christmas and am having some problems with it. Im not sure if it is defective or what but it it getting a bit frusterating.

It will work great for about a half hour or so and then it will just go out. No movement around it or anything. And then when I took it to a buddies shop to use while we were painting the latest project and it wouldn't work at all. We had to wire down the starter to get it to stay on. It will light but even after holding the starter down for over a min. it will go out. I thought lack of oxygen but my shop is pretty big (32'x30') and the other shop was a warehouse.

Are these things supose to be that finiky? If so I need to look for something else...Just thought that someone else might have some insight to this.

sounds defective to me.... I have one and the only problem i get is the tank starts to freeze when i leave it on for a long time.

Sounds like the thermocouple is bad if you have to manually hold it in to keep it lit. Is it still under warrenty?

That is the bad thing. I am sure I could go to return it but I through away the box after running it for a while and my wife got it for me from a place that is way out of the way. I might just have to bite teh bullet and try to return the thing.

I have a torpedo heater that would keep shuting off , found a spider in the eye
its a small rubber tube that looks for heat if its blocked it shuts down

I had the same problem with one of those heaters I used to heat my old garage. Problem was the thermo coupler. Save your money and get a vented heater. Those things can kill you.

I have one that's seldom used anymore but I have the same problem.

I simply clean the thermocouple of dirt and dust...then it works fine.
