Hi guys,

This steel chimney setup was installed when I moved in. Is it the proper chimney for a woodstove?

If these pictures aren't detailed enough I can take more. Any features I should be looking for would also be appreciated.

Thanks

I would say no. I just had a problem with mine., you need a good double or triple wall pipe were it goes threw the wall,.

It looks like it is a double wall pipe that is going through the wall, but it is hard to tell if it is for certain. I will say that the stand offs on the building don't appear to be proper for the chimney. When it comes to wood stoves today, you should check with the local building department, because if there is any "violation", your insurance company might not pay if there is a fire as a result. I know that it is next to impossible to get homeowners insurance in CT if you have a wood stove in the home, and they know about it. Too many fires because of poor maintenance and improper installation.

Yes, it seems to me to be double wall through the wall. The center pipe is 'insulated' from the white penetration piece by what looks like exhaust header wrap (heat insulation).

So I only need the 'through wall' piping to be double wall, everything else can be single wall (as long as I meet the clearances required for single wall)?

Thanks

around here fire chimeny is double wall,2" of insualtation..meaning a 6'flue is 10" its insulataed from the point it goes into the roof/wall to the chimney cap..with proper flashing at wall or ceiling thimble...to me that dont look to meet code... but then again u might have lesser codes to comply with then i do...
