I just bought a new air compressor. Its an 80 gallon vertical unit from sears. My question is on the proper way to mount this to my shop floor. Some people have told me it is ok to leave it on the pallet, others say no way. Some say mount it to some 2x6 pieces of wood and let it balance..... I am not sure the way to go. I saw some mounts from ENCO for machinery equipment but its more of a "foot pad" and does not have the ability to run a through bolt to the concrete floor..... Any help is appreciated. Thanks!!

Mine sits on four pads and has never moved at all. They make an isolation pad that has green waffled rubber on each side with a composite type wood in between. Better yet is just get a couple of scraps of thick semi tire scrap laying along the highway, square it up, and set the compressor on that. The only reason I have the other type is they tossed them at work. And as far as bolting a compressor down, it is not necessary and only puts holes in your concrete. I would not leave it on a skid all for the fact that the skid is for shipping purposes and most are not made out of the best of wood. One cracks and the compressor becomes top heavy. At least with the type of skid my IR was bolted to would. And it is an 80 gallon upright.

Sure they do. The center bolt can be threaded all the way thru the mount. It's just that there is a little bit of rubber preventing it. I actually threaded mine a little farther and almost pushed thru the rubber.

I did mine ( 60 gal. upright ) like Kevin54 said. I got a big piece of semi tire off the road and cut 4 pads for the feet. I drilled thru them and put anchors in the floor and bolted down. But as Kevin says maybe it doesn't even need to be bolted to the floor.

I did the tire thing also, had some extra pieces of 2x8 and made a platform about 3'x4' , cut up a old tire and nailed it to the bottom making a rubber base, then lagged the compressor to the platform. Mine isn't bolted to the floor, just free standing.
