First of all, my name is John and this is my first post. I have been reading a ton of great info here, so thank you to everyone who has been posting.

I am in the planning stages of a 40x70 stick frame shop (full foundation). After reading many threads about floor heating, it sounds like insulation is one of the most important parts. I found this schematic on the internet. So, to all the experts, does this schematic illustrate the best way to insulate, or is there something that I should do differently? Thanks for the help. -John

Welcome to the forum Cougfan. It is hard to read that pic as it is pretty small.

But it depends on how much money you want to spend. If you go with fiberglass like I did, it is a reliable and cost effective way to insulate the wall.

R13 for 2x4 and R19 for 2x6. R30 in the ceiling would be most cost effective. Looks for deals on Craigslist on insulation.

You can spend a lot more and go with a spray foam for better R value as well as blocking most if not all air infiltration.

IMHO, just put in the fiberglass all around and call it good. Cheap, effective, reliable and easy to DIY.

My daughter graduated from WSU in 2004. :) Go Cougs!

That is the traditional way of insulating around the edge of a slab inside a perimeter foundation.
There are 100’s of thousands of building built that way.

There are newer, more extensive ways.
The heated floor guys like to insulate under the entire floor.
A lot has to do with your location, and if you get frozen ground.
If you don’t, the way shown in the drawing should be fine.
