ProPress Gurus - Differences in fittings

Just swapped a leaking stop valve and pressed a new one in place.
I've only primarily used Viega fittings (copper, adapters (make, female, drop ears) and quarter turns.

The quarter turn I used today was Apollo.
Anyhow, I'm sure there are slight variations but for those that do this daily, do you notice a difference in how a brand:manufcters presses on the same gun/jaws ?
I'm using Milwaukee Jaws and or the Ridge Compact dies/jaws.

What I noticed about the Apollo as it seems the crimp seems a bit deeper and actually right past the fitting, it causes the copper to slightly -bulge- as the deeper crimp displaces it.

Need to use the jaws that are approved for the brand of fittings your using. They might be interchangeable but I'd check. If you purchase fitting from a plumbing house house they should know not a box store.

I think they are all the same until 2”. I should know this but I’ve been out of the field a while and completely retired now. I am sure the smaller fittings are all compatible with the different tools.

i thought the pro press fittings were the same unless you use get into the black iron mega press then its a different set of jaws. I believe the copper fittings bigger than 2"can also use the same gun, but the gun needs a adapter to use the bigger jaws.
I know Zoomlock press fittings changed as they got into a ******* match about 2 years ago because the new Zoomlock max takes a different set of jaws than the original Zoomlock. How do they expect someone to invest thousands for their proprietary tooling when they change the damn product right down the road?

No, the Nibco and Viega fittings require different jaws to press larger fittings. Mega press is different too. I’ve been out of the biz about six months but never heard of Zoomlock.

The last sentence you wrote opens another can of worms. One of our primary suppliers carried Viega only. They jumped ship & went Nibco only. We would have gone elsewhere for our material had they not given us the jaws to press the larger Nibco. Some design teams will specify one brand with no substitutions (usually Viega). If your going to be a player in the large commercial game, unfortunately you need both, and then pray the guy using the tool has the presence of mind to use the right on on the right fitting

Zoom lock is for refrigeration fittings. Milwaukee only carries 1 set of large jaws that i can tell. I would think they would state if it only fit a certain brand. l also myself retired from the UA the first of the month so I don't plan on running into this issue going farther.
