Protect lift while acid etching

Got my 2 post lift installed in the new shop, but haven’t yet put the floor coating down. Going to acid etch today but I want to protect the lift. Figured I’d tape off the base and shrink wrap the posts. Anything else anyone would recommend? Other idea I had was to sand around the posts and not even acid etch around them

Wrapping in plastic should be fine. Etch gets diluted and is not that strong to affect painted metal,especially when rinsed, we have never had any complaints about issues with etch.

Not sure what etch is used now days but when I did my garage floor 30 years ago I had everything removed except for one piece of roll bar tubing I forgot leaning in one corner. It was totally covered with rust by the time I etched and rinsed

I wrapped my lift in plastic and taped it up totally. Obviously lift the arms up to 6 feet or higher. You will be fine.

Is your lift powder coated, painted, etc...? If yes, diluted acid that will get washed and neutralised anyway will not harm it. I’d still protect it as much as possible but it will be fine.

I just used some plastic and that blue tape and it was fine
