Protecting Shiny Metal Surfaces

I am making some decorative indoor stuff using old car parts like camshafts, brake discs, gears, valve covers, etc. These are of course steel and aluminum parts.

I am cleaning and buffing the parts to get them all shiny. I would like them to stay that way. Would you all recommend a rattle can clear coat of some sort? If so which one? Also, would clear coat even stick to shiny buffed metal surface?

Any other ideas to keep these parts looking shiny indoors? I don't want to get them chromed.

Lacquer. I've lacquered brass. You get a can of really thinned down lacquer and dip the parts. They have to go in slowly so you don't get bubbles, and come out slowly so they don't get runs.

Upol brand clear. This is a professional automotive product. Mostly marketed as a jam clear when cutting in doors in high volume settings (collision shops ). Its a good quality product and the price reflects it. Cheap isn't good and good is never cheap!
