Wrong head. I meant the one on your shoulders.

So, I'm fed up with trying to get prescription glasses, ear defenders, a respirator or dust mask & a face shield all fitting properly. It's a royal pain! I really like the idea of having my whole head protected & clean when doing all the "messy" work.

In another thread, jdsac suggested "Bullard", a respiratory protection company & it looks like they might have what I'm looking for. I only wish there was pricing on their site.

What do you use to protect your eyes, ears & lungs when you grind or sand?
It doesn't have to be a mass produced thing. How do you make it all work.
I'm looking to make it easy, get great overall protection & for me, a clean head matters:) !

But I still want to hear what you do! How do you keep safe & clean when things get messy?

Maybe this turns into a good reference thread.:dunno:

North full face mask with supplied air compressor. Hose can be a pain in the *** at times but being able to place the compressor in a shady spot on hot days and having a cool stream of air washing over your face is worth the inconvenience. Also works the opposite way on cold days if you have somewhere warm and dust free to draw the air from

Model # for the 3M painter's mask? I have a #6800 full frame mask, but I have to stuff cotton balls between my eyeglass frames and my temples to keep out paint overspray or serious dust... I sometimes use goggles and a separate 3M respirator, but I can't find goggles that fit tight to my face. I have a little melted spot on one of my eyeglass lenses where a grinding spark came up under the goggles and landed on the lens. I'm sure glad that spark didn't land on my eye!

I buy some inexpensive safety glasses in bulk to have them all over the place. I think made by 3M

I use Elipse masks. Have two. They fit well and breathe easily, just end up with a good amount of condensation inside.

Earplugs are corded. I buy in 100 CT boxes, so they are always around and I use them religiously. Anything from running the shop vac to snow blowing to using a saw. I always rock ear plugs.

I have a face shield for grinding, not sure on brand.

I use a uvex bioic face shield think i saw it on GJ. It allows for wearing my bifocal safety glasses and then a mask, 3m 8511, turn off the hearing aids and wear a pair of muffs that I would normally wear. I have been surprised that nothing fogs up!

I'm farsighted but hate bifocals. I use 1.25 full lens safety glasses around the shop- strong enough to see up close (mostly) but weak enough I can walk without problems.
3M facemask when grinding/painting. Full mask when working overhead.

I wear prescription glasses for all my waking hours.... so I don't do much extra there. Except the die grinder with a burr. The metal flakes fly everywhere, and I goggle up for that.

I grab earmuffs for most power tools, even cordless - grinders, impacts, saws, etc. Also when hammering/pounding on things.

I try to do dirty grinding outside. Then I find most of it blows away. If I find the 'cloud' persists, or I have to do it in the shop, then I get out a dust mask.
