I have an IR231 impact wrench and just bought a IR2115 TiMax and I would like to know if there are any disadvantages to putting protective boots on them?

An alternate reality in a parallel universe.
It keeps them from looking like **** in a year, I've always used protective boots. I remember the leather ones I would use on my first IR231 many years ago, or course now I have the blue padded plastic ones on my IR231's, IR244 and IR212.

I would put one on, though you could definately get away with not using one on the 231, unlike my matcosol rand that i broke the nose cone on before i got a boot for it.

Have one on both my Mg 325, and my IR 2135 Ti. They definatly keep the gun itself looking good and its easier to wipe oil and grease off the boots IMHO.

It helps to save them from damage when dropped, it may keep something from getting broken.

I use them. I use IR 244a guns and they tend to shoot their oily exhaust back into the boot making them discolor and get full of oil. They do help with drops however!

I use one on my MG725. Most of he time I leave my gun attached to the airline and just lay it on the floor so the boot gets dirty but not the gun. Quick soak in the solvent tank or liberal spaying of brake clean cleans up the boot when there's some downtime. It came with the gun, so why not use it?

My 2115timax boot didn't fit properly and does have a minor tear from being stretched. That said, it still does it's job, so I am not concerned. Especially in preventing scuff damage.

every gun i sell gets one. Now i only sell snap on now and they automatically put one in the box. IR never gives one away. you can get them for your cordless impacts as well and even the ph3050a air hammer.

Yes, I have boots for both my IR 2135 and 2115. Although the IR ones are more of a rubbery cloth texture...so cleaning them doesn't really work out to well.

I am wondering if you could tape off important things and use a plastic dip without ruining anything...

+1 on that, GoBlue. I have a IR 244-2 with the boot and I have had the same thing happen to me. I still recommend a boot though.

My old IM6100 did that because the boot had like a little dam in front of the forward exhaust. It was clear but the marvel air tool oil turned it a weird green.

my IR composite body one didn't come with one and i can't see me getting one. It doesn't get banged around like some in pro shops though. now, when I get a MG325, the boot's going on it for sure!

No point in getting one, IR composite impacts nowdays are cheap enough to not even worry about and if you treat them halfway decent then they will survive

How do you like the IR 3/8" Timax? I am thinking of getting a nice used one for $110,If you don't mind me asking what did you pay?

I paid $135 for one on Ebay. It's supposed to be new in the box. It hasn't arrived yet. I have my fingers crossed that it's what it was presented as. It's a great price.

I think Snap On has boots for cordless impact batteries, too.
