That's a big un !
I think Proto started stamping their tools 'Proto Professional' in around 1970 give or take a couple of years and stopped in the mid 80"s after Stanley acquired them.
Yours has a pebble texture handle so i think it's from the 50's and was rebuilt with a later cover plate.

Remski: yes it's VINTAGE. can you post another picture of the other side of the handle? also if you look at the SHOW YOUR PLVMB TOOLS thread you'll see similar 1 inch ratchets that were just posted this last week on that thread. your wrench handle has the pebble pattern which is right about when Plvmb changed names to Proto.

also my old Plvmb 1 inch ratchet has a Proto replacement part for the ratchet part which might also be the case with yours. did you get any sockets with the ratchet?

thanks for sharing.

There was no sockets with the wrench..

On another spectrum.. picked this little guy as well..
No markings anywhere.. Looks like 1/4" rachet..
Looked interesting...

Base unscrews to reveals a spring from the mechanism..
Any clues ?

Consensus on the 1/4" frankenstein ratchet is Wright.

Here's some internal pics. To remove guts, unscrew the handle and remove the spring and ball. Pry off the retainer washer, then remove the gear out the back. The rod pawl will then slide out.
