Proto 3/8 chrome sockets vs snap on

I have been searching on here but looking at zoro and like how proto goes from 2-26mm without skip but not sure of quality over snap on as we don’t really have Mac guy to compare and replacing old Cornwell sockets as my rep retired last year and moving the, to road box


I love my snap on 1/4 is go too but asking how these proto hold up over snap on for those that use them a lot as proto is hard to get from tool trucks and very demanding when independent dealer wanted to become a rep

We buy proto's any time we need a chrome in 1/4" to 1/2", either from our hardware place or from Zoro.

They hold up great in heavy equipment and industrial mechanical service.

I can say I am very impressed compared to snap on I do like better Proto for chrome sockets and unlike snap on Matco and Cornwell these have a deeper broch for socket depth and very simple design with nice chrome

Another thumbs up for Proto. I even have some 70s purchased Challenger, which was Proto's second tier stuff. Still in good shape, but retired as I lost a few and just replaced the set.

I order proto from McMaster Carr at work. They look very nice. We are working with new fasteners so they are not working very hard. The deep well sockets are closer to a mid depth than other brands deep wells. I believe they would give good service in demanding use.

I've got Proto sockets in 1/4" chrome, 3/8" chrome, and 1/2" impact. Haven't had an issue yet....been 10+ years

I have 3/8” chrome 12 point universal socket sets. Metric is snap on, SAE is proto. The snap-on is definitely better quality, fit and finish, the universal joint is much better with the snap-on, etc.

I bought the proto because I wanted USA made, and they will do the job I need them for, but I am still keeping my eyes open for a used snap-on set.

Proto tools are as durable and as expensive as Snap on if comparing list prices. Definitely worth buying used or new if prices are reasonable. For sockets, it shouldn't make that big of a difference if you go with Proto.

Like proto better over snap on for 3/8", 1/2". 1/4" like SnapOn more. Proto feel better, edges rounded better, think. SnapOn 1/4 stronger, hold better.
