I spoke too soon in my last post...the UPS paperwork was "done" on 5/10/2018...but no actual tracking information as of this morning, ie it is not on the way. I did speak with Grainger and they are looking in to it..their systems show a 6/20/2018 ship date from a third party (Proto??) and the UPS paperwork is valid.

Oh well, back to waiting.

Has anybody figured out why the Grainger page shows this set in the metal box? Is the metal box available? It would be great to buy the metal box for small money.

I just got mine yesterday! Very nice set, not sure where it's going yet :), but for the price, it can go just about anywhere. Probably going to displace an old Craftsman set for this one. The metal box would have been better (ie: smaller), but the blow mold case is pretty nice for what it is. Wish I would have ordered a few more, could have given them as gifts, just wasn't sure if it was going to actually go thru. Thanks for the heads up OP!

Ordered 2 sets- picked up at the store- one set was missing 17mm socket (double 16mm) called Grainger, they shipped me an entire new set in 2 days.

Told me to keep the "defective" set as it was a manufacture defect.

So I got 3 sets for the price of 2 !

Check your boxes people

Yes! (Cautiously) Turns out that UPS "lost" the package and Grainger has resent the order, ETA is Tuesday, next.

Hopeful.

I got my 2 sets today. It came in a large blow molded case , not the metal box. It's actually too big for what's in there. I would have preferred the metal box , but I wont complain.

Mine arrived...with a depression in the case where the breaker bar was supposed to be. At least all the socket sizes were present.

They’re making it whole, but it’s a disappointing that SBD is letting incomplete packages, are packages with dupe sockets, other brand product, etc. ship. That’s not on Grainger and has nothing to do with enduser price. Maybe SBD execs need to spend less time making slide decks about the pricing (not quality!) of their brands and more time executing.

Shows 47.70 shipping for me. He'll probably ship it with cheap option and pocket the difference. Could probably demand the "expedited shipping" advertised or partial refund on shipping charges and win lol.

it is my impression that you can also include an additional fee to be buried in the shipping cost . . . . .

No fees on this auction, just how eBay is calculating it.

Shipping has been a pain on all the items that I've sold lately. Spent an hour the other day changing box sizes and services to get the price down to a reasonable amount. Went from $65 to $16 on another item based on a few inches.

Seller sets the fee. You can set it to a fixed number or set it up to pull in the actual shipping cost based on zipcode and then add a "handling" fee on top of the actual shipping charge.

I'm sure a lot of folks do this hoping to attract folks who don't look at the shipping charge, but the reason most sellers do this is because the eBay fee is based on the sale price only, not the shipping price. So this guy only pays a fee on a $60 sale - not a $120 sale. It used to be far more common, so I'm assuming eBay cracked down on the practice to a certain extent.

Ebay charges their fee on both the selling price AND the postage. They started this several years ago to stop sellers from selling for a low fee and high postage.

The ebay postage thing sometimes gets quite expensive to the seller. If you don't do flat rate shipping because the item won't fit (like these socket cases), calculated shipping can get quite high if the buyer is far away from the seller. These days of hidden shipping costs built into Amazon and other retailers (who negotiate wholesale lower rates anyway) has made buyers unaware of the real shipping costs incurred by sellers.

If I charge $7.50 shipping on ebay for a small flat rate priority box, I pay about 10 to 11 percent to ebay on fees on that shipping, and then 3% to paypal. Ebay discounts that shipping to me to $7.10 from the higher post office rate; but with the 14% ebay fee, it ends up costing me $8.15 to ship the item; so I lose $.65 on the shipping, when the buyer thinks I'm making $.40. To break even, I'd really have to charge $8.25 for small priority mail shipping. It would look to the buyer like I'm gouging them for $1.15, but in reality I'm charging them my actual costs.

According to Ebay Q&A, they applied final value fees to shipping in July 2011, though it feels like longer.

Once in a while I have to laugh when I see a guy charge nothing for the item and a massive shipping cost. Have to wonder if they were in a coma, just got out of prison, or living in a bunker all these years. Brings back memories. Those sellers ruined it for the rest.

Was the incomplete set sealed when you received it?

Wrong. Seller is charged a percentage fee from eBay on BOTH sale price and shipping cost.
