Proto 31/32" Socket

Thumbing through a Proto catalog, I found reference to a 31/32" socket in 1/2 inch drive. Anyone own or use one of these?

Unless you had a rusted or stripped 1" dia nut/bolt, and/or work on equipment designed pre WWII i doubt it would be good for much besides a seal driver. Now 9/32 and 11/32 I have seen used in some more modern automotive applications.

I have a proto 21/32? or maybe 25/32 in 1/2 drive. I agree, its an oddball size for sure. 21/32 works out to a little over 16.5mm and 25/32 works out to like 19.8mm. 31/32 works out to 24.6mm. Are these possibly SAE sockets intended to fit metric bolts?

Yeah, but how cool is it, that you can actually get a 31/32? Just remember, YOUR collection is incomplete without one!!

i don't know........since proto is basically an industrial suppier is there a chance that machinery still uses 32nd's?

Now this is going to bother me.

Just the other day I looked at a reasonably new socket marked 24.6 and thought it was very odd (It was very shiny chrome and in very good condition, almost like new). I think it was an Armstrong.

I am looking for it now, I might have seen it at a Pawn shop, but if I did, I'm sure I would have bought it.

I have one. It was in my grandfathers toolbox. His tools ranged from the late 1930's - early 1950's. I Never found a use for it. He seemed to have all the odd 32 sizes in his box. He also has a 53/64 socket.........I think it's 53, it may be 5?/64, I can't remember for sure.
He worked on Coal mine heavy equipment/vehicles and also did some farming. He had an old Farmall model B.
Anyone familiar with old Farmalls? Did they take some of the old 32nd sizes?

dad always called channellocks "farmalls" i asked why.......he said you could fix one with just a pair of them

Wasn't 23/32 popular for working on old flat head engines? I used to find those rumaging through old boxes of **** (treasure) when I was a kid.

I have a 31/32 in 3/4 drive, a Williams. Bought several Williams 3/4 drive sockets as a lot on Ebay and this was in it. I have other 32 sized sockets and wrenches, no need for them, but I'll keep them anyhow.

32ed sized nuts were common up until wwII, when the world became simpler.

And I thought it was bad when you folks were hunting sockets just to fill the Hansen trays.

I've used the 31/32's on something on equipment but I can't think what it was.
