Proto 5649 rebuild kit

So, I ordered a rebuild kit for the Plomb/Proto 5649 that I bought here:

The only piece I'm apparently missing is the selector lever.

The new kit arrived today, and I'm stumped - how does the selector lever get installed so that it stays? Is it supposed to be staked or peened down or something?

It just slips on/off of the selector.

Peened down from what I've seen but I'm no proto expert

Yes, just peen it. Carefully, the lever itself is made of some soft alloy .
