So today I did something dumb, and managed to be really impressed with the ASD on my Proto wrenches.

I was trying to break loose an 18mm bolt that was well rusted in place. There was so much gunk on it, but evenly spread out, that I grabbed a 19mm wrench and began to yank with all my might. Any other wrench I've ever owned would have just stripped the bolt, but the wrong size Proto with ASD dug in, and broke the bolt free. Once it started moving, I got a look at the other side and could clearly see I was using the wrong wrench.

Let's just say, I was pretty darned impressed.

Or does that mean Proto 19mms are so sloppily sized that they fit a 18 mm.

But seriously, you got lucky. I wouldn't put that down to the quality of any wrench. Wrong sized wrench on a rusty fastener is a deal with the devil that you somehow won.

You are correct. I was using sloppy in the definition of careless or unsystematic but it can also be defined as "casual or loose fitting" which was not my intended use.

I'm a big believer in buying quality tools ONCE! I have also Proto ASD,excellent wrench, does everything well. You won't be disappointed. I also have ratcheting wrenches, offset box and sockets.Extremely happy with all my Proto,IMO you will be hard pressed to find much better, and USA,a win ,win.Whoops I forgot my two ratchets,a 1/4 and a 3/8 long handle, with wobbler extensions.

Oh BELIEVE ME, I fully realize the luck I had!!!

Still, I can guarantee you that my non-ASD wrenches wouldn't have pulled that one off.

I the past I have also noticed the faceted splines on those same ratcheting wrenches do a great job of digging into a fastener when things get dicey. I'm pretty happy with these wrenches; especially considering they really weren't my first choice, but I got a deal I couldn't pass up.
