Grab the Protos off zoro with a coupon.

Trusty cook flat-flat hammers are my go to. But they don't have a rubberized grip if that's important.

Vaughan is really good. But you can't beat the price of the grayviks on Epstein.

hard to go wrong with anything already suggested here

I appreciate all the advice--but some of the brands mentioned are totally new to me. I'm more familiar with Proto, Tekton, and Blue-Point.

I get it, but do a little reading on trusty cook. You won’t be wasting your time. Here is one thread to get you started. The 3 piece starter set is great. Alternatively keep an eye out for their blemished models offered for sale here. (Blemished meaning better condition than it will be after the first time you use them)

those protos are still 106 on amazon on my end. look for them in the stanley flavor. they might be a bit cheaper with the stanley name vs proto or mac.

Thank you, sir. You're absolutely correct. I just ordered them for $106 via Amazon. Also thanks to everyone else who contributed to this thread.

Those hammers look exactly like the Matco ball peins that go for $300 a set. See link below.

Same hammer, rebranded?

yes. Matco, Cornwell, Armstrong, SK, Carlisle, and about 15 others all use hammers made by Trusty cook in indianapolis. They are truly awesome hammers. they used to make them for snap on back in the day.

After using so many dead blow ball peen hammers, I'll never go back to a normal steel ball peen with a wood handle. you get so much more force and control when using a dead blow ball peen, and the shock to the hands is almost nonexistent. They dont rebound and when you are whaling on stuff, this is important to not destroy surrounding items.

I love my snap ons, but trusty cooks are nicer. Head profiles for weights are better and the handlers are skinner for most normal sized hands. snap ons and the big stanley anti vibe hammers have huge grips meant for sasquatch. Trusty cook is very loved around here. they offer tons of specials around the holidays and send out new products to demo before they are sold to the public. I wish Id have found them 20 years ago.

Im a little late to this post but you won't be disappointed with those hammers. My main hammer in my go bag is a proto 16oz antivibe. It won't come clean any more but it's been a great hammer. It's been used heavily since I bought it in late 2014. Indestructible and comfortable to used. I've got a 20oz, a 48oz and a backup 16oz just incase. People that say a hammer is a hammer is a hammer haven't ever used a nice one all day. They are definitely excellent hammers for sure! Let me know how you like them when you get them!

I understand some are nicer but don't find myself using them all day.

I wouldnt say the antivibes are superior to a wood or fiberglass hammer. But they are nice to use and these are pretty indestructible. Although, usually when a hammer is destroyed in my experience it's not from use...
