Picked up this Proto tool box today. What caught my eye was the drawer latch that looked similar to my vidmar cabinets. Now I knew Stanley made both Proto and Vidmar but did not realize they made Proto tool boxes with similar drawers to Vidmars. Paid $300 for it. Had a crappy side box which I dumped. New it can be bought for $1284 from Zoro so I am happy with it.

If I'm not mistaken SBD builds all their tool storage products Mac, Proto, Vidmar, and maybe even Lista, in their Ohio facility.

A lot of the Mac and Proto boxes differ only in drawer configuration.

I believe that's a 460 box... Some of the 450 boxes get 200 lb drawers too by the way

I'm 200% sure it's not a 460. They have very few 460 series boxes and that isn't one of them. You're right about the 200 lb. drawers, but I believe that's only on the 450's over 50"

Edit: Well I was on my phone and couldn't see the pic very good, but now that I'm on my laptop im not sure of any damn thing. I don't think I've ever seen one like that.

OP: What's the model # on the box?

It is a J45035. I few websites list the drawers at 400lb capacity but I don't know if that's right.

It did not come with a key so I tried a key from my vidmar cabinets and it worked. I guess there are not that many key codes.

Stanley Vidmar and Lista should be known as two different companies. I think Stanley BD holds a share in Lista, but I don't think they own the entire company. Lista has been around before Vidmar was invented.

There have been report of Dewalt Lista boxes.

Lista's North American manufacturing facilities are in Holliston, MA and Burlington, Ont. (Canada)

Stanley Black & Decker bought the North American division of Lista in 2012. Whether or not that included any portion of Lista International, I don't know.

Lista's website says they were founded in 1945.

Vidmar was originally A&R Weidmar, a Swiss company just like Lista. They've been making modular drawer systems since the 1940s, just about as long as Lista has been around. SB&D has owned Vidmar since the 1960s.

So I contacted SB&D and the drawers are rated for 400lbs. I am all of 200lbs and stood in the bottom drawer and it didn't move. It is a sturdy little box.

@Conductor562 @Trey T @WWIIjeep While Proto, Mac, Lista and Vidmar are all part of of the Stanley Black & Decker family, they each have unique qualities and are manufactured in separate facilities. Let me know if you have any other questions!
