I purchased a small set of USA made Proto/Challenger tools at a industrial supply house approximately 20 years ago. It contained 50 pieces and came in a red zipped soft case. I was always impressed by the completeness of the kit with a real range of sockets both in Std and Metric sizes in 1/4" and 3/8" drive. Did anyone else purchase one of these by chance? Unfortunately I'm missing the 1/4" drive, 7/16" socket. Does Proto sell separate sockets which would match up?

6 or 12 point? What's the number of the preceding socket? I likely have a spare 6 pt, 12........maybe.

It's actually a 1/4" drive 7/16" 12 point std. length socket I need
The preceding socket is a 3/8"- #1012T and the following socket is a 1/2" #1016T. I'm guessing the one I need is a #1014T.
Thanks, Motoretro

Challenger is gone as a brand for Proto. Stanley replaced it with Blackhawk. Challenger warranty replacements are all Blackhawk.

Leaving branding aside, yes, they will sell individual sockets in any size.

Thanks for the info, I guess I'll have to do some scrounging around to find an exact replacement.

*Wasn't Blackhawk originally a NAPA brand? Seems like I remember them along with New Britain on the wall displays.

No, Blackhawk was never a napa brand. Originally they started out on their own in the early 1900's and made very high quality and innovative tools. As the century progressed they where sold and New Britain picked them up. Now they are owned by Stanley. Blackhawk made the S4 floor jack with the head light that every one talks about on here:rocker:

Ebay will do automated searches for you every night for specific things. If they get a hit, they send you an email with a link. Just last week, I picked up a very long discontinued NOS wrench to replace one that I lost a long long time ago in a galaxy far far away.

It's a really handy feature and over the years has found some really obscure things that I'd been looking for.

This thread caught my eye, let me look too but I think mine might be in 3/8 drive. I bought a Proto tubing wrench from Rickster on this forum.

Thanks for the history. I was going back about 40 years and remember a old school Napa store which had a great automotive machinist on board. He was well know for the longevity of his rebuilds. His name was Garn, an older Swedish guy who really paid attention to the details. The store was old and carried a huge, older inventory. I remember the Blackhawk name along with New Britain and just assumed. Thanks for the link.
