All of my Proto combination wrenches purchased in the early 70's along with the recently purchased set.

Nice wrenches. Challenger was actually the economy line of Proto. Regardless, they were still high quality. Unlike today where an economy line of any product means "garbage".

Those are nice looking sets.
Is "Challenger By Proto" also stamped on the wrenches themselves ?
I have a few that just say "Challenger" and I thought they were kinda old but if yours are from the 70's then that helps date mine as newer.

The blue set was bought on a Navy base in 1972 and the loose wrenches were bought in the 70's as well. The other set was purchased recently from GJ member back2class. It was missing the 15/16 wrench which had been replaced with a different brand wrench. I replaced it with one of my loose wrenches to complete the set. All the wrenches look very similar and share the same numbering scheme. I will check the imprint on the wrenches when I get home and tell you exactly what it says.

I have to say the "older" tool roll bought in 1972 still looks like brand new!!!
Plus it has that cool oval 1970's stamp on it! Very nice set of wrenches:thumbup:

I found an interest NEW Challenger socket & wrench set on-line a few years back.
It came with...........
3/8" drive, RHFT Challenger ratchet.
3" Challenger socket extension.
3/8"-3/4" 12pt. Challenger sockets.
Challenger spark plug socket.
3/8"-3/4" Challenger combination wrenches.
Everything came in a red molded plastic case.

Total cost was $32, including shipping.

I gave it to my ten-thumbed son-in-law for his birthday.
