I picked up a 1/4 drive Proto big dawg ratchet off of Ebay like last year. Anyway, the detent ball wouldn't budge so you couldn't attach sockets or anything else to it. With all of the threads about Proto ratchets, I dug the ratchet out and emailed Proto inquiring where I could buy a rebuild kit. They emailed me back saying that they would be happy to send me one for free. A week later, the brown truck left me an envelope with the repair kit inside. It's refreshing in this time of crappy customer service to have a company actually respond to a customer's request for help. I was amazed by their quick response because, I have been unhappy with the whole Stanley/Mac/Proto dynasty over all of their offshore production.
I hesitated posting this because, I'm sure there will be a flood of repair kit requests made to Proto so, you can save them for a rainy day and then if someone really needed one, they would be sol. Yes, the repair kit is even stamped MADE IN USA.:)

Don't worry. Just think about how bad the $5 coupon poster feels...

That is very good to hear.

I had a similar experience with SK. I just needed the retaining ring that holds the mechanism in the head. The customer service rep said they would send out a repair kit. I asked if I could have some kits to have on hand for my other ratchets and they sent around six kits free of charge. I think it took a little under two weeks for the package to arrive by regular USPS mail.
