What do you all think of Proto's Fine Tooth Ratchets? Good as their classic line? Thanks!

The round heads are Facom designed and made in Italy. They are very nice, they are also sold under the Mac brand.

Are you talking about the Italian made 72 tooth Facom Palm control ratchet clones?
They are very nice. Great balance, crisp ratcheting action.

Or are you talking about the 45 tooth premium pear head ratchets?
Those are also very tough, durable, and strong. They are a little on the heavy side though. I wish Proto would offer a flex head ratchet in this style.

Thank you for the replies, the model number is Proto J5452F. I don't think that it's an American made product, but I could be wrong.?

They're "nicer" than the old coarse pear heads. The XL series pear heads are top notch(45 tooth). Heavy. Comfortable.Fairly low thickness.
The F type are incredibly smooth and nearly free of back drag.Real nice. Strange head for me. Some swear by them.I have a couple.Round fine for me are mostly Wrights.I think it's a better ratchet.

I rarely reach for my original style Proto pear heads any more. The Big Dawgs now and then. I really like that handle.

AH. That's the way it always goes with any tool. 9XX Snap-On, everyone uses Dual 80's now.14Volt goes 18.....now 20.Abrasive saw-dry saw, grinding discs-flapper discs
Pretty soon all the Macs will all be 90 tooth and the younger and non pro will use the zillions of coarse that flood the used market. They'll get real cheap for a while.
Cornwell will all be upgreaded 72 tooth in another....... 60-70 years .
SK says a finer tooth is coming out.It had better be something special because the old style is still quite serviceable and always will be for any normal person. They could step up their game just with simple length and handle variations.....but.:dunno:

I bought the Proto No. J5257F 3\8 flexhead new in the wrapper at a pawn shop for $ 15.00 with some hex sockets taped to the package. It's very smooth and the flex head easy to move without it being too loose. The head is held on by a hex head screw and you can tighten the tension. It's not marked on the ratchet where it was made , but the paperwork does. I like it.
