I think the CS rep at Proto is full of sh!t. There is not a chance in hell that Amazon is buying and selling seconds or damaged goods. Amazon could buy Proto Inc. ten times over and is not going to ruin their reputation for any product, period.

I always just put the tool in a small package and send it to Proto in Ga. asking for a replacement or repair when possiblee and a new one shows up in due time. Never had a problem over the years

Well I probably won't be looking to buy anymore Proto tools. I hate when tool companies hassle people on warranty. These tools aren't supposed to break when used properly (unless abused)and should be made free of defects . If anything a warranty should show how much a company stands behind their product.

lets you buy a new car, not from the dealer, but from the truck driver that delivered it.
the engine falls out the next day
and now you want the dealer to pay for it?

take it back to the truck driver that you bought it from.

let amazon figure it out.

That's a horrible analogy. A dealer is a representative of the manufacturer. They don't care where you bought the vehicle. If it has a 3/36 bumper to bumper on it, they will fix it for you unless damaged by abuse or..
Your analogy implies you can never move once you buy something in order to get the warrantee honored.

If a tool has a lifetime warrantee, you should be able to take it to any dealer for repair/ replacement. If there is no dealer near you, you should have the option to send the tool in. What if grainger (in this case) goes out of business? All tools purchased there shouldn't get their warranties voided.

That is just a weak policy or a cs rep not being accurate.
