Proto Metric Hex Sockets

Has anyone purchased 1/4" drive metric hex sockets from Proto recently? Was the bit the same size the whole way or do they have a step in them? I see them pictured both ways online so I'm not what I'd get if I order a few.

I agree, I like the ones on top, that are matched to the actual bit itself.

Proto is excellent quality.

That stepped style is so they can use the same size socket for all the bits. Don't reward them for being cheap. Keep your money.

I got some 3/8s and 1/2 ones and the quality is amazing

I don't know about 1/4", but the 3/8" and 1/2" use full buts like in the top pic.

I have Proto hex sockets in all drive sizes, and the hex bits are full size from the holder to end of the bit.

Proto hex sockets are really nice for the $$. I have used mine for years in field service work, and they have never let me down.

I just got myself a set that I thought was NOS but they are like the ones on the bottom. So are you saying the kind with the steps are the newer cheaper kind?

Either way quality appears to be amazing.

I ordered 4,5, and 6mm from zoro on Sunday and I received them today. To my disappointment the bits are stepped like the bottom picture. I guess thats the new style?

Set screw type ****, They loosen up and you loose them,I lost a 7mm that way, stiil p*****s me off when I think of it. Had to run down to napa to replace it
