Thanks for the deal guys. Looks like a good value, since amazon has these for at least 20 bucks a piece.

I signed up for the zoro email list and got 15% off as well.

EDIT: I actually used the "deckdeals" promotion for 20% off. $41 is a great price.

Maybe mine is an anomaly, but I just bought this model proto and they have embarrassingly bad jaw alignment.

Also tried the knipex on an earlier order and I was disappointed in the soft jaw material. I attempted to clamp onto a masonry screw with them and they spun and gouged the teeth.

Someone here mentioned the Taiwan-made milwaukee at Home depot as a great bang for the buck. I picked up a pair of those and will give them a whirl.

I would have thought the Proto and Knipex would be excellent quality. Interested to see how the Milwaukee ones perform.

Anyone else find the same issues with their pliers? Vise grip or otherwise?

I bought a pair of Knipex brand locking pliers from Amazon WD and was not impressed. It has been a while, so I forget what the exact annoyances were, but I did return them. My brother has a 5 piece set of Grip-On brand pliers that I'm envious of. They just seem to work better than others (and of course, the correct orientation of their release lever). They are, however (as I remember), still "loose" and "sloppy" - as were the Knipex pliers. I think that's just part of the design of locking style pliers.
