I’d contact them. Proto will make reasonable substitutions on their part if they are out of stock on something or the item being warrantied is no longer in production. That’s probably why you have the industrial finished wrench.

The unfortunate thing is that this won't be the last time this happens. Inventory, manufacturing and customer service is deteriorating before our eyes and it won't get any better. Our desire for these companies to stock this **** on the shelf is hammered dead because reality says nope, not again. They'll never build or stock **** that won't sell unless they sell thousands. Bookmark this post. It's the truth.

I called them and they did say the black ones are discontinued so they sent me that one in its place which will work for me even though i do like the black but as you can see it was wearing off the finish atleast i could possibly do the gear change but i dont know where i can get a really really thin piece of metal to fit inside and compress the c clip

Can someone kindly clear up what the “black chrome” finish is? And before someone asks about Grant’s tomb, I have “black chrome” snap on ratchets and it’s not black oxide, and it sure as heck isn’t chrome.

A feeler gauge worked for me. Takes a lot of fiddling.

It's chrome, just not all straight metallic chrome.

Black chrome is a co-deposited electroplate finish, consisting of mostly metallic chromium, and up to 40% or so of various chromium oxides. the color is a result of the oxide structures, which absorbs light. The magic is in the electroplating, which controls how much of the oxides are deposited relative to metallic chrome.

I put a tool in evaporust and it completely removed it, so it’s some form of oxide

Sorry to distract with this: I thought black chrome was tough like chrome but it wore off and got rusty spots. So I put it in evaporust thinking it would attract only the rust and leave the black chrome. But it removed all of the finish down to bare metal and now looks like ****. I use cold blue to repair it as best I could. Ceracote might be the answer.
