I was under the impression that spinning the handle would cause the ratcheting action to engage.

I purchased one and this was not the case, turning the handle just turned the handle, no ratcheting what so ever. Am I missing something or is this the way they are?

It makes no difference to me as I only bought it to add another 1/4" ratchet to the box and this is like the old mac tools ratchets with the hard screwdriver-like handles (one of my favorite ratchets) and I got it for relatively cheap. I am just wondering if I got a bum ratchet.

that's all it is, just gives the ratchet a similar function as a speeder.

It works similarly to how this screwdriver works.
The handle on the screwdriver free spins too.

I have a snappy version but it has the bent handle. Works suprisingly well. But i dont use it that way. Bought it off my dealer years ago for $40. Was discontinued. Good idea but just didnt take off

that's exactly how my other standard flex head ratchets get used so this will be a great addition, especially for interior work :D
