I just got an old Proto spinner that has smooth bore hole on the female end. Doesn’t take another extension and is perfectly round. What is the female end for?

All the other ones I can find online have a square female end so no idea what the round could be fors-l1600.jpg

I believe that the consensus is that your spinner was a failure by the quality control department. I checked my Proto spinners and all of mine were assembled with the 1/4” female drive in the conventional position.

My postwar Plomb spinner with a similar handle shape as your early Proto spinner also has an operational 1/4” drive female socket as expected.AF00EB5A-331D-4533-A74C-5BB18177D7C5.jpeg71AB84D1-8EA5-43BF-A280-DA0034753177.jpegB98B3277-C7B6-4E25-95F2-06D447FEBF78.jpegA8B38738-8946-4317-921B-1ACA8326DF6B.jpeg
I have more than a few Plomb spinners and none of them have a socket similar to yours. 8F80F571-D298-463C-8A0D-2482A0F615AD.jpeg
