Thought I would share a recent unusual find that I turned up at my local thrift shop. Its a not quite complete set of Proto TAC (Tubing Appliance Company) ratcheting crowfoots.

There are 4 ratcheting mechanisms, the wrench head will snap into the ratcheting mechanism similar to a socket.

Socket head sizes range from 11/32 up to 3-3/4 :willy_nil.

I know I am missing one of the ratcheting heads, and most likely a wrench handle and extension bar. Have seen some smaller sets here and on Flea bay, Can't find much of any info on this larger set.

Paid $150, which took about 4 days of deliberation to pull the trigger. I don't really have any foreseeable need for these and usually that's enough to stop me. However, I had some Christmas+birthday money from the old man that's been burning a hole in my pocket for a while which pretty much covered it.

Edit: Full range of sizes for reference
  1. 11/32
  2. 1-1/8
  3. 1-1/4
  4. 1-3/8
  5. 1-7/16
  6. 1-21/32
  7. 1-25/32
  8. 1-7/8
  9. 1-15/16
  10. 2-3/6
  11. 2-1/4
  12. 2-11/32
  13. 2-15/32
  14. 2-13/16
  15. 2-31/32
  16. 3-3/32
  17. 3-9/32
  18. 3-7/16
  19. 3-9/16
  20. 3-3/4

If you have no use for them now, I'm going to bet you never use 90% of them, if any at all. Hey, at least that $150 isn't still burning holes in your pants...

I have 2 sets of these. One set is marked Canadian Military in a metal box and the other set I got on Ebay a few years ago that were new old stock. At least your set came with a nice metal case. I've only used 2 sizes since I've had them. Nice find.

Nice set. I have a few individual pieces, but have never seen a complete set before. Those were used frequently in aviation maintenance. I think TAC was headquartered in the SoCal area.

Neat stuff! IDK if I would have bought them if I didn't legitimately have a use for them. Next time you want to spend money for something you may never use, you can just send me a money order for the same amount of money. I will get something I can use and the money won't be burning a hole in your pocket anymore...:lol_hitti

I'd say it was a very good buy. Besides, should you ever tire of them, I'm confident you can at least recover your money...

I bought a set of 4 for like $ 20 a year or so ago. The 5/8 was handy in a power steering line. Mine don't swap out like the op's do, but Are 1/2 9/16 5/8 and 11/16? Can't remember exact set, have to look and take pics Monday.

I see this was 6 years ago, so by now you found that octagon fitting that these fit. Tell me what it was on as I can't remember ever seeing an 8 sided fitting that I needed to remove.
