Just got this. Surprised how well intact the logo is. Even has roller bearing drawers. Guessing this had an.option of how many lower drawers? Doesn't look like one was ever put in the empty spot.

Any idea on when it was made? I don't know much anything about old Proto...

I picked up one of those Proto tool mobiles a while back. Linked below, starting at post #550. There were several Porto-smart folks that chipped in with information about the chest. That info should apply to yours as well. Nice find.

I looked for one of those rollers for years and finally gave up. I sold the flying lady top box that OTG has once I cried uncle. Awesome find.

Thanks for that. Yours is crazy mint.

So is mine early proto because of the dished section where the logo is and the logo style itself?

Is mine missing that bottom door or is it possible it never had one?

I didn't follow all the trademark stuff too closely but one thing if I remember right, is TM just means applied for, legally it doesn't have teeth. That's the R.

And maybe they purposely didn't go back to '39 in their application because that window included competitors using Toolmobile and they wanted that particular competition excluded. Just thinking out loud.

I'm not entirely sure I know any more about my box now than I did prior to that conversation. There seemed to be a lot conjecture and speculation but that's the way it seems to go for a lot of tool or machine related mysteries. As far as that oddball door behind the front cover action mine has going on, I would guess (more speculation) that it was an option. Doesn't seem to really serve much of a purpose. I can see where the optional drawers would have mounted in the bulk storage compartment but mine obviously never had them.

Finally got it unloaded today right before the rain hit. This is my only proto box and I'm really glad the logo is in such great shape. Actually I think it's the only old proto I've ever seen in person.

Have you done anything to this? Cleaned it? Filled up? Found a top chest?

Right now it's in my storage container, but I'm probably putting a Snap-on stack up for sale that's in the main garage. If that sells I have a place for the Proto. I'll just lube the drawers and start using it.

I just cleaned this one up. Mine is missing the side drawers and the front cover unfortunately but is really solid otherwise. I replaced the missing roller casters

I know its an old thread but why not keep pics in a single googleable thread.

Just got this box, surprisingly close to op up in Flagstaff. Time to learn about vintage proto!
