Hello. I'm considering purchasing a large tool kit from Proto. Before pulling the trigger, however, I'd like to know more about Proto's current place of production. Are Proto tools still produced in the states? Thanks in advance for your responses. I'm not trying to start a debate about the importance of COO, I just want to know the current state of Proto. Thanks again.

I bought some brand new Proto ratchets. Some have "USA" on them and some don't. Not sure where oversea, but likely China.Watch out for their chrome plating. I have one that is quite grainy. Feel like sandpaper. The teeth is also quite coarse.

You need to remember that Stanley bought Facom recently and now some Proto tools like the round head palm control ratchets are made in Italy. I bought a J5257F 3/8 drive flex head ratchet and the wrapper it came in had Made in Italy on it. The ratchet itself has no COO on it. The bottom line is that if the tool doesn't have USA stamped on it, then it's made elsewhere.

the blackhawk tools are now mostly asian made, but proto tools themselves are mostly made in the states, or other respectable origins as listed above

I got one of those indexable head ratchets that said "made in USA of USA and global components"

If everyone was required to be that detailed, nearly every single on of snapons tools would have that on it. Proto is very upfront with where they make their tools. A simple email to their customer service will get an answer to any COO question you have and they are pretty quick to reply. I've asked a few times myself.

call it discrimination if you want but i dont care. Im not a against tools made from italy, germany, spain, england, or japan. I am anti asian tools that are not from japan. mitiyoto (sp?) are great calipers that are from japan. I am anti china and tiawan and korea.
