For $50, I assumed you already did.🤪

Is the Pope a Catholic...

Wow...I must be real predictable or something :) Ha Ha..

Went and grabbed the tool mobile stack within an hour of finding it. I was close to lunch time anyway and luckily my job is a job where I have a somewhat loose lunch break in terms of when I start it. So I called the seller and headed right there. I set my expectations pretty low as I could see it was pretty rough. I got there and the seller helped me to load it. He said it was his grandfathers and that both grandparents had passed on and they were cleaning up the place. I didnt have much time for a full story but man this thing is rough. It's really heart breaking as well. Early Duplex top chest. Check the logo out! Top chest is so hammered with rust that the piano hinge is rusted open and someone at some point tried opening it when it was rusted and broke the spot welds. Luckily it still has the top tray which I need as well as the handles. Even had a few misc proto LA goodies in it as well so I'll part it out and scrap it.

Tool mobile- so sad. It is super crusty/crispy on the lower spot welded seam that skirts the rollers. I mean Col. Sanders would be honored to have this as his chicken recipe. Original casters still roll easily. Drawers open and roll easily. Breaks my heart because of what it is and how long I've been searching for this exact box but oh well.. check out the cover that I could get open just enough to get a photo. Proto LA wrinkle finish tool mobile. Older than the 2 mfd era ones I have acquired I can part it out. Still has the side handles, drawers, castors to donate to a more feasible cause.

I bought this proto la ratchet for a dollar strictly for the novelty. It’s a plain steel grind off with an unfinished handle, and broken to boot. Poor thing. Someone managed to break a dog and one of the teeth. Pictured next to a more normal example.

Man that ratchet is pretty cool! I would have totally bought that just because it’s so unique and you don’t see many of those tools that escaped the smelter

I wonder if that ratchet was factory modified and used as part of a customer's assembly, kind of like the crimping tools with the spinning knob. That would explain the modifications and abuse.

I’m really trying to understand this sellers logic? Was there some of these that recently sold for stupid money? I can’t imagine these would sell for more than $100 each?

He posted them so pages like GJ would see them and mock them, giving him lots of views. Thus, “lots of interest”. Then some wannabe collector sees that high view count, and says, I Must Have Them.

¢¢. 😂🤣😂

Definitely some specialty tools in that lot.

I picked up this R-2795 1/2 drive, 12-pt. socket last week at the Restore. The 12-pt. broaching is quite shallow, and there is a 1/2" square broach beneath it. A custom tool, for sure. It looks normal externally.

Squez, from the 97__ number on the wood handle, I suspect the handles came from screwdrivers and were either repurposed by an owner, or supplied by Proto when requested. Do the rasps have Proto markings?

I think the line wrench with the square stub is a contract tool. Is the square removable?
It would be nice to see the numbers on the other special items. Just type out the numbers referring to the photos.

The socket is 5216-h but also laser etched 48100072
The line wrench square is removable and is numbered 4759
The files are not Proto… so someone fooled me but still cool

Have you considered just hauling off the entire shop so you have somewhere to keep your new haul?

I saw this micrometer on the bay. Normally I’m not into machinists tools, mostly because I don’t know how to use them. But when I saw the condition of this and the vinyl pouch, I had to buy it. It looks to have been used only a handful of times and I have no regrets! I have looked in catalogs up to ‘61 to see if I can find it but didn’t find it. I’m thinking later 60’s? You can see it’s a smaller size when compared to a mfd era nut driver

I seem to be on a bit of a proto flying lady tear as of late...I was scouring craigslist the other day and low and behold I spotted a rare beast. The 9953 Tool tote tray. Heck they are rare in plomb( I have one) but the more modern proto versions seem to be just as rare. I dont know of another collector who has one although if someone does have one I would be excited to see photos....anyways I made contact with the seller and set up a pickup for today. It was located in a small ag town but luckily I was able to run over there on my lunch and get back in time. Paid $55 for the tray and the pictured sockets. All the sockets on the right are proto la and are either ones I dont have or are more difficult to find so I thought it was a good deal! Super stoked on the tray. It's very straight and not rusty but as you can see it has been repainted. Maybe one day I will repaint it but for now I'm just going to enjoy putting it to use and give my plomb version a break for a while.
