Proto Tools Picture Thread - Post Yours!

If they have any sentimental value to you or someone else in the family, I'd absolutely keep them, if for no other reasons than (1)you will pay a fair bit of money to get them back one at a time, and (2) have a HECK of a time locating a set after the fact.


Incidentally those are some of the most useless wrenches in the entire Proto lineup that I've come across so far.

I have even made use of my Proto tappet wrenches and piston ring groove cleaner before needing a one sided 12-point flare nut wrench. lol


Cool nonetheless; family history is always a plus.

You obviously don't work on airplanes with hydraullic systems! Aluminum tubing with "B" nuts tightly spaced at bulkhead fittings make these wrenches handy.

Even though the previous owner went overboard marking his tools, I couldn’t leave these behind at an estate sale yesterday. I tend to favor my Snap-on flare nut wrenches as well but Provincial makes a good point.

Thursday I picked up an interesting Proto DOE. It is marked AN8505-13 and is a thin (service-type) design with slender jaws. It can't be designed to take much torque. It is marked "Proto (R) mfd USA" which I think is pretty late to be linked to an AN-number. That trademarked logo was introduced in the mid-1960's according to Alloy Artifacts, and the AN-numbers were superceded soon after WWII. I assume that this wrench was made for a legacy application, hence the use of the obsolete nomenclature.

On the internet I found that one useful application for this particular wrench is to fit the locknuts on Lee Precision reloading dies! Very handy.

It is unusual to see that modern of a tool with an AN number. Probably even more odd than a Proto WF ratchet.
Here is a Proto ball pein hammer belonging to Tin Medic that I put a handle on. I didn’t have any Proto style handles so it just got a conventional one.

Apparently I don't have a 3/4" combo wrench whatsoever, and this will do just fine even without much of it's original chrome.

I have a habit of using tools, mostly paying no attention to the maker, especially if it’s a tool I’ve used my whole life.

This is my late grandfathers. As you can tell, it has been used and abused!! I have been doing freeze plugs on a 1968 Dodge, and needed something a bit precise to hit the outer lip of the freeze plug. I had to knock the freeze plug in, since the centers were ROTTEN and the angle meant no way I was getting a socket square on the freeze plug lip. Once the top was in, I could grab the bottom and pull it out.

So...... I dug out my Grampa’s old trusty rusty.

After using it, I decided to clean it up, and low and behold! PROTO! Haha

I don’t know when my Grampa got it, all I know is I’ve used it since before I can remember. It’s earned its keep!

I just won this on eBay, I like vintage tapes and I like Proto, so this makes sense. Hard to tell but it's a little guy, dual English & metric marked 1 meter, just under 40". NOS shelf stock from a closed hardware store.

I thought I would see you there, must have just missed you. I saw someone pull a 10 ton puller out of a carpenters box just before I could look though.

Tru-Test was True Value hardware stores brand. Wrenches, sockets and ratchets were made by Proto for them.

There was a guy a few years ago that did but haven't seen him on here in a while. Went by the tag Burnin53 or something like that.
