I bought a Proto torque wrench at auction. One of the screws was broken and the crown washer missing. I replaced the screw with an appropriately sized machine screw, but still need a crown washer. Any ideas? Don't want to pay for a rebuild kit since everything else is present and working.

I would suggest an external tooth lock washer in the proper screw size and form it into the correct shape. You could use the screw and a receiver die with a hole and matching countersink to form it. You could also just assemble and tighten it and let it form that way as well.

Do you have a caliper or micrometer by chance? If you can measure the OD I can tell you the basic size. Probably a no.10 screw, but that is just a guess.

Ok, basic OD of thread major is .138" then.
I will say that is smaller than I expected. I would still try to make one from an external tooth lockwasher, though I would make that receiver die and form it there instead of relying on the thread strength to pull it into shape with something as small as a number 6.

I have some external tooth crown washers. They are smallish, but might work. They will just barely fit onto a 8-32 machine screw. If you want me to send some, PM me your address and I'll pop some in the mail, no charge.

I just looked at the small box they came it, and they are #6 external tooth crown washers. PM me.
