PROTO torque wrench

I picked up a snap on and a PROTO torque wrench off kijiji for $100. I'll keep the snap on but I want to sell the PROTO. The problem is that as you turn it to a higher torque it gets really stiff. Has anyone had any luck taking these apart and fixing them ?

I have never heard that before, sounds great. Do you call first or how does this process work?

Call customer service to get the ball rolling. 800-800-TOOL. You'll need them to give you the address of the service center. It's been a few years since I sent mine in, I don't recall the details. I think it went to Texas, turnaround was 2 or 3 weeks.

It's completely normal for a torque wrench to get much harder to turn as you compress the spring to it's maximum. Likely there is nothing wrong with it.

No I'm talking about put the square drive in a vice and use two hands to turn it.

That's an older style Proto wrench. I'd double check with Proto to make sure they still calibrate those wrenches and have parts.

I have the same wrench, bought it used in about 1980. Stupid question, but you did loosen the lock that is located on the end of the handle didn't you?

I got a hold of PROTO/Stanley and there service center actually charges more $65-100 ,than the jobber place that was posted above. Plus I would have to pay for shipping to Edmonton. I'm in Canada so it's a lot different.
