I'm really looking at spending about 300 on a set of metric impact sockets and its down to Proto or Sk
Proto being about 20 dollars cheaper
i'm torn between the proto j74216 and the SK 4047

what do you think? i have plenty of both brands but this is a large set and a fairly large price so lets hear what you think

Hard to go wrong with impacts from any brand. Owning both I can tell you that the Proto's like to rust a bit, probably due to a rougher finish. SK impacts have a smoother finish and the advantage of size etching. Both do the job.

If i didn't have my Wright set, and it was only between Proto and SK for choices, I would go with SK.

I would take just about anything Proto over SK, but I would go with whatever is cheaper. No, I would actually buy whatever I could get for a better deal used on Ebay.

you can never go wrong with sk. excellent tools and customer service, and they promote usa production. hands down sk. ive had and used both, and both are quality and nice but I think sk is a nicer tool.

I like them both. More respect for Proto.
In the shops I worked in, Proto would be the predominant one. SK a personal tool.

Sk because #1 the proto set is missing 33&34 mm which are common axle nut sizes. But comes with an 8mm which is pretty useless in 1/2 drive. The sk sockets are nice ive played with them before. My votes for sk.

SK's warranty is better. Proto will make you go to a distributer who could put you thru the run around. SK will be a simple phone call.

However the probability of either needed warranty is pretty slim.

I generally like SK better because I'm not a fan of Stanley.

However for impacts I'd go for cheap and sink your tool $'s where it matters most. Impacts are almost always decent even with cheap brands like HF.

I went with the sk I figure the 20 dollars is worth having the 33,34 and 35 that the proto lacks. That's like 60 dollars in sockets.
I've got a lot of proto sockets and no issue with them at all I actually prefer them to the sk's just for the shape of the bigger sockets but the so set is a better deal.

I Like both, but proto is is not the empire it once was.

I own a good deal of 1/2 dr. S-K impacts Deeps, standards and chromes in 3/8 and 1/4 dr. I did paid a little more for them compared to other brands but still less than some other brands and have not a single issue with them... any of them in 30 odd years. I think S-K makes some of the finest sockets a person can buy chrome or impact.

Its all preference, I owned S-K tools a long time.... LONG before the craftsman tool invasion that happened to my tool box about 15 years ago.

They are both excellent tool manufacturers. I have dealt with both on warranty issues and S-K has the better warranty service. Maybe the best in the industry.

I have Wright set 466 (10-27mm) and then bought the larger sockets I needed. No complaints with their sockets (or other Wright tools for that matter).

Have both and have had great success with both.

I tend to lean SK, but the real difference is the finish on the SK does not rust nearly as bad as the proto. The new SKs also have dual stamping, both laser and etched.

I vote sk national tool has them for around $270 and I think they ship free for orders over $400, easy to spend another $130 on that sight, lol...
