In my fleamarket finds, I ended up with a 3/8" T-handle . When they made it, they made the head where the tommy bar slides too soft. It's really sloppy. They messed up on the heat treatment. The bar should have bent or broken first. So for sh**s and giggles I took it into a store for Proto warranty, they took a picture on his phone and sent it to the rep. If I believed rep would do anything, I would also believe the promises that politians make. Not surprisingly ,I haven't heard anything back.

I tried looking up Proto Canada web page for a warranty address without luck. If I can get an Canadian address, I'll mail it to them with a note. This is still sh**s and giggles.

I'm amazed they had to send a photo to a rep. Ive never had a single question on a proto Warrenty. Even when I 300 pound gorilla-ed it.

Where did you try to turn it in? I've turned in a broken Proto swivel once at KMS tools after I saw someone in line before me warranty his Proto breaker bar without a receipt. They didn't have it in stock and had to backorder so turn around time was slow at 4 weeks.

Another place where you shouldn't give you any problems is a Dewalt factory service centre if you have one nearby. I don't know how many of those are in BC, if you are in the Lower Mainland and don't mind dropping off your broken tools in Vancouver, this is an option. They don't stock any Proto but they will order a replacement. Turn around time was 2 weeks for that worn out flex head Proto ratchet I bought used and they will ship the replacement. Also YMMV with the replacement but they also replaced that broken Craftsman swivel I brought in with a Proto one. Shipping in broken tools to the Dewalt factory service centre is probably not worth it unless you have a pile of broken Proto, Craftsman, or other Stanley brand hand tools.

Thanks I never thought about the B&D service center. Good Idea. I've bought recons tools, and parts there. I tried KMS, Abbotsford. I live expensively close, chuckle. When KMS switched from Wright to Proto, they mentioned service from Proto wasn't as good as Wright.

Did not know KMS sold Wright tools at one point. These days they seem to be pushing Gearwrench tools over Proto for better profit margins and inventory.

Acklands-Grainger used to be the place for Proto. KMS and Raider-Hansen are the choices now.

Never thought of the DeWalt service centre either until Professional Tool User mentioned it on Garage Journal. Probably your best bet for warranty on older Prtoto tools

Acklands-Granger is no longer bricks and mortar, online only. I bought my first Proto combinations 15/16" to 1 1/2"from Acklands in 1980, they were affordable!, Made In Canada. IR owned Proto in those days. I even got a replacement Gray Maple Leaf from Acklands. We have Raider-Hansen in town, when I asked about Proto, it was "we can bring it in." Like everybody else it seems , they stock Jet.
