HAD A (7/8"X4")BOLT STUCK IN A PIECE OF MACHINERY AT WORK THIS WEEK THE APRENTICE DID'NT REALISE THE BOLT WAS A TOUCH TOO LONG BEFORE POURING THE COALS TO THE BOLT HEAD(WASHERS AND A LOCK NEEDED!!). THE BOLT BOTTOMED OUT AT THE BOTTOM OF THE HOLE MESSING UP THE THREADS. I SNAPED A CRAFTSMAN RATCHET & BREAKER BAR WITH A PIPE TRYING TO REMOVE THE BOLT SO I COULD REDEEM (JUNIOR),BUT NO CIGAR!!:shocking: ALL I HAD LEFT THAT WOULD FIT WAS A DOUBLE BOX END 18" PROTO WRENCH THAT I HOOKED TO A COMEALONG!!!:headscrat. SO CLICK BY CLICK THE WRENCH TIGHTENED UP. THE BOLT WAS GOING ONE WAY OR ANOTHER,I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE KNOWN HOW MUCH TORQUE WAS ON THAT BOLT BEFORE IT SNAPED. HAD TO HAVE THE PART MACHINED AND RETHREADED AND WE WERE BACK IN BUSINESS.(JUNIOR:lol_hitti) LEARNED A VALUABLE LESSON & FELT PRETTY BAD SO I DIDN'T HAMMER ON HIM TOO MUCH.IT WAS ONE OF THOSE LEARNING MOMENTS,BUT I WAS GLAD TO HAVE THAT PROTO WRENCH.

If the wrench broke might not have been very healthy.

Going to a yardsale this morning to see if it has some Proto for me.

When time is money and the whole factory is down it calls for imagination and seat of the pants wrenching. I've also had to use come alongs on pipe wrenches before. Just make sure its a cast iron one and not aluminum!

Yes stuff like this is scary and dangerous but with common sense you can usually get away with it.

Proto tools have been bailing me out for many years. that's why I'm a Proto fanboy and most of my tools are Proto. Nuff said.

Years ago, consumer report tested tools, and proto came out #1. They were higher than snap off and snap cried foul and wanted retests, and did all of their own tests, "head to head with proto, snap on wins hands down", and it showed these tools holding some cards, and the proto player folding==anyone remember that? Its been 15ish yrs ago. I only buy proto for big jobs, ie pullers, breaker bars, etc. The sockekts and stufff are way too much $$, I mean a 1/2 in socket for 19$ is way too rich for my blood.
