Thank you all for your honest feedback. It may be that we can't economically make this particular design for the masses, perhaps special order only or something. Its very helpful to find out what features you do and don't like.

The dimple die thing would look awesome, but the reality of it is, we would need to have a guy stand at the press with 4 different size dies, and do each hole individually. Its just not cost effective unless we can add $100 to the price, and the thing is expensive enough already.

The seat design is an easy fix, however. That we can do differently with little or no change in cost.

Just have your parts stamped out and dimpled in one operation... if you are going to go "Production" then GO PRODUCTION. single dies and a press is not production, getting your parts stamped out and dimpled in one operation is the way to go. Laser cutting and single dimples are slow...

I apologize for ruffling anyone's feathers. That was not my intent. I was not insinuating that the OP's work was cheap or shoddy... it is not and overall I like the style and design. What I was trying to state was that - in my opinion - OP's choice to not dimple diminished the PERCEPTION of his work and doesn't allow the quality of workmanship and design to come through.

No need to back peddle. This is the internet. I don't have a lot of love for the chair either. If they have laser ability, why limit the design to round holes? If they don't want to dimple what is usually dimpled, then move on to another shape. There are a lot of 'Erector Set' truss shapes that have a very interesting look.

And this is not a new market:

First, great quality. I design and build furniture for living, this is a excellent start. Your stuff is always top notch.

Couple of questions:
_ are you planning to flat pack this or ship assembled?
_ how much does it weigh in that current state?

Design wise, I would definitely play with a tapered look. Right now it looks a bit underdeveloped, and that happens sometimes when things start looking very square.
Even just a few degrees in at the top will make a huge difference without having to change the design.

As for the wood, its a toss up and a easy change. Lots of new places use Baltic Birch, its more modern and easy to work with. Solid wood is always nice, but pick the wrong species and it will date your design, and its usually more work and money.

Powder coating can look really good, but imo I would stay away from the redundant wrinkle finishes and definitely consider doing a clear coat option.

About the weight, keep it beefy but be careful, if hipsters and ladies start using them you dont want it cumbersome.

As others have stated, I think your market is going to be more coffee shops and restaurants w/ the occasional high-end garage guy.

Since you are powercoating orange and black, I'd suggest that you make some that are orange and black. Even though they are not a HD product, talk to the local HD dealer and see if they will sell a few on consignment or in exchange for a few stools that they can use at their dealership.

Put them out there where people can see them and test fit their **** on them.

Any updates?

Nothing really worth posting about. We're looking at some other designs, doing some quoting, generally prodding the idea lobe of the brain hoping for brilliance.

I appreciate the general feedback from this thread. I am surprised by the amount of people who want dimpled holes. Never woulda guessed.

I think they look great, my only concern would be the fasteners eventually loosening and the legs becoming wobbly.

Did you consider a three leg round top design? Less material better stability. Frank Lolyd Wright designed furniture for falling waters with three legs plus the design worked well for milk stools!

Like the design and concept.

A three leg would be real cool too, not as square looking and less material, more stable as you mentioned.

Looks Nice, almost Erector set like. Is it for sitting at a desk, in front of a computer, at the workbench or ?
The reason I ask is: I'm sure it will have it's uses. But if I'm working on something...
I prefer an adjustable height stool with castors so I can roll around, back and forth etc.
Sometimes I can't sit low enough on my adjustable height stool, so I will sit on my creeper.

The horizontal pieces with all the same size holes look too Erector set. Get rid of those holes. And dimple the holes in the legs.

And don't forget blue for the Ford guys!

I would like to see this design with no holes and the laser cutting slightly curved legs and bottom support pieces.
