Howdy i have a pebble field dual marked 3018 double open end wrench that is in almost nos condition minus a small chrome loss on the
5/16 upper snout but no rust. 5/16x1/4 sized reads PRVTV 3018 MFD USA PLVMB TVVL CV. I cant figure out how to post pictures but i think its a rare ol gal, well dad says it is. We have a full set of pebble field combos but none are dual marked. Only other dual marked tool i own is a 1/4" ratchet but its a rusty loss. Anyway any one seen one of these before? Ebay comes up empt. Dad says he thinks he bought it in 49 or 50 from martins hardware on Congress in austin.

Unfortunately for Plomb, the inclusion of the "PLOMB TOOL CO." mark was considered a breach of the court agreement that settled their original trademark infringement lawsuit. Plomb ended up paying a considerable fine for this miscue, and in the final settlement was allowed to use the "Plomb" name on tools only through the end of 1949 (actually a few months into 1950). After this the Plomb name disappeared from the tools, but the company continued to operate as the Plomb Tool Co. for a number of years.

Well, you can date it between late 1948 and March 1950. It's rare, but not super rare. Most refer to them as "lawsuit tools". They pop up reasonably often but not every week or anything. They typically sell very quickly from my experience.

As far as value goes, it's worth what someone is willing to pay. If I were selling it (assuming it is excellent to mint) I'd start the bidding at $15 and see where it goes. If someone needs that particular wrench to complete a set or something it could significantly more, but your odds of finding that guy may be slim. I would think your odds of finding someone like that would be better in the classifieds here, but you'd have to know what you wanted for it.
