40 yrs ago working in a shop the tech 2 bays over started screaming. Long story short somehow his ring touched the batt cable lug on the starter and a ground. He tried to pull it away but it was welding itself in position. When he pulled it burned him deeper. He had to wait until the ring melted enough gold away to break the circuit. I have never been in a war or witnessed a human catastrophe, but I will never forget how he sounded.

there are places that make silicon rings to lessen de-gloving concerns.
I need to order one, my tungsten carbide ring hardly ever leaves my finger

Ouch. My ring is non-conductive ceramic. Hopefully it is weak enough to shatter if it gets hooked on something. Still, it comes off for a lot of things.

Knowing the trades I worked in I've never had a wedding ring in the near 50 years we've been married. The marriage is still going strong. As a teenager I shorted a watch band across the battery to ground and I've carried a pocket watch ever since.

Same here. I saw enough fingers lost asva kid, I never even considered wearing a ring. I did wear a watch without a steel watchband sometimes. But mostly lost the band and stuck them in my pocket.

I always had problems with watches. Hardly ever lasted more than a couple weeks. After cell phones came out, that was my watch until I got a Fitbit.

Reminds me of this soccer goalkeeper, that had is finger ripped off when the ring was caught in one of the hooks holding the net. The finger was later reattached.

****....not sure I could get my ring off. It's been off once, and only because I was having surgery (nothing to do with my hand) and they said it had to come off. It was a ***** getting it off.

Otherwise, it's been on my finger almost 21 years.

Many years ago I was at the lumber yard getting bags of concrete and while grabbing and tossing them onto the truck I caught the corner of the skid with my ring and the momentum and mass pulled the ring along the top of my finger like a scraper. It scooped out a nice little chunk of flesh where there isn't much anyway.

At work about 5 years ago, a cute young female engineer I was working with had a silicone band and I ask her about it. I bought one and have worn that ever since. It was about $8. I tease and tell her she is my work wife now.

I appreciate your advice and am aware of the risks involved with wearing my ring.

I have been married to a succession of women since I was 22, and have always worn a ring. Yes, there have been incidents but I have accepted them and will wear the symbol of my promise until it has to be removed from my finger.

I have a wooden ring the wife got me on a trip to the beach. Reading this, I think I need to start wearing it more.

Nope, Never, jewelry isn‘t for anyone that performs any manual dexterity procedures or works/plays around electricity or moving bits. I think playing on the internet you'd be ok though.

I was a mechanic, vehicles for ten years and aircraft for 30 plus years. I haven’t worn a wedding band at all when I worked and have not worn my wedding for almost 25 years because of the hazards of it being there. Wife understands

Well, when I can get the ring off, im going with a silicon one or without. Im afraid its gonna take a few days for the swelling to go down at this point..

I have a whole bunch of different color rings (everything from red to orange to blue) and my kids love picking out one for me to wear for the day. They have a lot of fun with it.

We're not allowed to wear wedding rings at work unless they are silicone.

My grandfather was missing his ring finger since before I was born. The story I was told is he was jumping off a truck and his ring snagged on something and yanked the finger off. I guess that was before doctors could successfully re-attach fingers, I don't know. I occasionally think about that to this day, but my ring seldom, if ever, comes off during all the various projects I work on. Maybe I need to reconsider that choice.

I don't wear one or a watch. I got a silicone one, but moisture gets trapped under them every time you wash your hands or anything and that wet slimy feeling I just don't like. My wife doesn't like it, but as I tell her, it's not a ring keeping me married...it's the expense of a divorce.

I've cut off a ring with an oscillating multi tool for my buddy. He started having an allergic reaction while hanging out at his place. Fingers started swelling up and couldn't get the ring off once he realized what was happening. The ring got very hot very quickly from the vibration. Pour water on it helped. His wife woke up the next morning and he looked like this. And his hand was sollen so bad it looked like a Mickey Mouse glove. Cutting a tungsten ring with a multi tool could prove interesting.

If you so choose to wear a tungsten ring make sure to let those know around you that is what the ring is... while you might know, you just may not be conscious when or if it needs cut off.

In your time of need, time may be of the essence, help us, help you.

Tungsten carbide rings (as well as ceramic) are very brittle. The proper removal method is to grasp them with Vise Grip pliers and crush until they break. It is VERY important to use Vise Grip type pliers and not something like Channellocks, because Vise Grips will only close a small amount, and will stop before causing more damage, whereas other pliers may end up crushing your finger.

Rotary ring cutters are effective on most other metallic rings, except titanium or stainless. I would strongly suggest not wearing those metals as rings.

I have a titanium ring from my wedding and it was mostly the prospect of how to get it off if I injured my finger that got me to stop wearing it. That and electrical work.
