Are you sure? I've read some of these flashlight forums that are out there on the internet. Most of the people on those flashlight forums are really weird in a freaky way. They all seem to regard AAA batteries as the abomination of flashlight power. Although it seems to me that few of the people on those forums are actually real world flashlight users, but rather people who get an erection and have an ****** over the latest technology or simply just collect flashlights.

I bought one of the new Maglite XL50 flashlights (a simplified version of the XL100) and those flashlights run off of 3 AAA batteries. So far so good. I got about 8 hrs of very bright light before the batteries expired, just as adverstised.

Beware!! Lots of information, but you have to take some of it with a grain of salt. I've lurked on that site off and on for the last 3 years now. There's lots of opinion and not as much facts. Very few people on there seem to be real world flashlight users or use flashlight on their job, if they have a job.

Hmmm...

I detect some parallels here...

:D

They cost the same as AA batteries and only have a fraction of the energy capacity. The same argument can be made over the C and D cells.

Anytime I replace a battery in one of our vehicles, I always go back with the largest battery that will physically fit in the tray. It costs the same as the smaller one and has maybe 20 or 30% more capacity. It's cheap, or rather, free insurance.

The fact that the Rogue 2's used AA batteries was a major selling point for me. If they were powered by AAA barreries, I wouldn't have bought them. Personally, I'd love to see a Rogue 2000 or something that was a scaled up model that used two D cells and would spit out a couple of hundred lumens for a couple of weeks continuous.

WoD

I don't know. I think 8 hrs of light out of the Maglite XL50 with 3 AAA isn't bad at all. Certainly much better than the 3 hrs you typically get with 123Lithiums with the more expensive lights.
