PTAC heating element died and N/A... can I substitute?

Went to repair the heating element in my ancient Trane PTAC (ptea1201) and found out the part hasn't been made or available for years. I'd like to have it for supplemental heating since it is right next to my workbench in the shop area.

Does anyone know if it would be possible to substitute it for a heating element with similar specs to get it working again?

I have an older (15yrs) Amana PTAC with AC and Heat pump in my sun room. When the main power board went bad several years ago I was able to match up a replacment TRANE contol board that also upgraded to a digital thermostat and remote stat that worked just fine. Do you have the old part number to share? If it is a heating element that kicks on when it is too cold for the heat pump to run I suspect you should be subtitute a new element with the same specs as long as it fits in the space in front of the coil.

The PTAC is ptea1201, but I can't recall the element off the top of my head - d63889 or something. It's not a heat pump style PTAC, just the 3.5kW heating element.
