Hello all,

First of all, awesome forum, I have been looking at pictures here for several years now! I am from Belgium, so many of the products discussed on the forum sadly are not easily available to me and many of your HUGE garages are also a dream as we don't seem to have that much space around my parts to build such houses :)

But, I am a proud owner of my first house and after all the works, it is time to... work on the garage/basement! It is an ugly but nice space which I have claimed mine, ow yes, and it will be a thing of beauty when I'm finished with it. So, I was considering tiling the floor, but it is seriously too big to do on my own and don't think it's worth the time I currently don't have. So I was looking at all the beautiful flooring on the pictures here.

First things first: The brands you lot speak of around here for floor 'paint' are pretty much not available to me :) It is not worth (pricewise) shipping form the States either. But we have quite some nice products over here as well of course. But I can't seem to figure out the difference between:

- Two component, water based, epoxy floorpaint
- and One component, solvent based, Polyurethaan coating

You see, they sell and manufacture these over here. Both have very good reputation (the brands) but I find it hard to find reviews of the actual products (most people over here simply tile the floor, or do nothing). So perhaps some of you experts can tell me what the difference is? For what it's worth, both manufacturers claim that their paint is friggin awesome Thor's hammer solid. Prices are pretty much exactly the same.

The water-based one, the manufacturer told me that it's a great coating, but not intended for heavy car use (which is fine for me, as it is mostly a workshop/wine storage and a one car spot used only in winter). It is available in your better paint store around here.

The PU manufacturer, claims industrial use and heavy duty all around. As it is industry aimed, it is not available in standard paint stores. It is aimed directly at big projects.

That last thing makes me think the PU would be best suited. But on the forum I read exclusively about EPOXY based floor stuff, so I wonder... what the hell is going on :shocking: Is PU not to be recommended at all? Or is it called differently overseas?

Somebody please help me, I'm crazy confused and am counting on your knowledge to clarify this bit :) I am about to become a dad and would like to get this sorted prior to the upcoming sleepless period :D

[EDIT] Ah yes, and to add to the confusion. I read that sometimes you refer to PU as a top coating OVER the epoxy. Please note that the ones I'm talking about are stand-alone. So the one is an epoxy system and finishes with the waterbased epoxy. The other consists of primer and 3 layers of the PU coating, no epoxy in that story.
