Folks - If you haven't done so yet this year get out to the shop and do some snowblower maintenance.

I suppose i should have sent this months ago or at least done the maintenance on the two that are in my shop now.

Mine will be fine now. Neighbour is waiting for parts for his, though.

What's a snowblower?

Ha!

A buddy of mine from Ohio got a new one. He showed me a pic, my comment was "That's a funny looking roto-tiller" (kidding of course).

But in the same vein... do your generator maintenance! Never know when you'll need that.

I don't find it necessary down here in balmy Ohio. I only owned a snowblower for about 6 months. That was in 1982. I didn't really care much for it then, and have done fine without it since.

I figure that's why I have a 4 wheel drive truck. At least until the snow gets 12" deep or so. Then if it's really necessary, I'll just clear out the snow with the skid steer . . .

I like to use Mother Nature's method the best, though. It will all melt and disappear naturally over the next 8 weeks. No gravel in the yard. No fuel used. And no freezing toes or fingers. :bounce:

I tried to use that common sense too of the 4WD vehicles. It still holds true for the wife and I but the daughters apparently didn't think so. They got rid of their first vehicles, which were 4WD so they wouldn't get stuck in the winter time. . . .what does Dad know ? :dunno:

Finished up with my winter excercise about 20 minutes ago.

I busted the 3 pt hitch on mine today. A bunch of chain and a come-along allowed me to lift the blower enough to get it back in the shed. Finished up with the blade on the 4 wheeler. I'm starting to hate winter. Only 3 months left!

Good timing . . . 2 years ago I bought a beater 2 stage snow blower (MTD 5/24) for $40.00. It ran fine but the prior owner didn't know that the skids are wear items . . . He ground the skids off, wore through the scraper blade and the first 1/2" on the lower edge of the housing away.

I replaced the skids and and brought it over to my Dad's. It sat in his shed till this week when we broke it out for 9 inches of powder - a little more that his 1 stage can handle easily.

The beater handled the mess by the street from the plow without issue but wasn't clearing down to the pavement because of the lack of a scraper blade. I'm going to try to rig up a scraper from a 1/8 X 2-1/2 X 36 piece of bar stock. It can't work any worse than no scraper. I would have gone with a OEM replacement piece but the mounting hoes on the housing are GONE. . .

Wish me luck.

Should've done maintenance earlier but it's done now. Just put new auger blades, scraper bar, new fuel line and filter, cleaned and gapped the plug on my 9 year old Toro 3650 single stage. Works like new again; just came in from doing mine and the neighbors drives. My drive is two wide and only about 75' long but on an incline so I've got to keep it clean. I admire you guys that shovel (even more so those of you living in the south) but, my wife, that works in a hospital, tells me too many times about the old farts (like me and some of youse guys) shoveling and then having the big one. I'm trying to hold off on that indefinitely. :)

I just came in a little while ago from doing my double drive....a little windy! Have around 8" of snow. It's been one early, cold, winter.
