Puck lights in perforated vinyl soffit

Is this possible or doomed to fail? If a no go, what about a pendant from a vinyl soffit? If wiring above soffit, is removing soffit acceptable for the required access? 5 lights or so.

Looks like the diameter of the trim would have exceeded the width of the flat by a bit.

Same rules for access? OK to set wiring and boxes on soffit, it truss tails, and access through hole for light?
