I need to buy a tool to remove the crank pulley off my SBC 350. There's several varieties of pullers and I'm not sure which to get. The pulley is 6 3/4" diameter. I like to buy decent tools but I'm not using them professionally, so something between HF and SO would be good. Any advice? Thanks in advance.

Just don't pull it from the outer rim. It will ruin the harmonic balancer. Pull it with the holes in the center section. A flat plate type puller with 3 holes for bolts through it should do the job, unless designs of the balancer have changed since I last did one.

I believe the Chevy 350 crank pulley (harmonic balancer) is press fit onto the crankshaft. The SO puller from the link above will work (HF version work just fine and only cost $20). Like OccupantRJ said, don't pull on the outter diameter or it will get damage. The pulley is made of two pieces and a thin layer of rubber is sandwich between them. Pulling on the outter diamter will damage the rubber (the rubber help damp out the engine torsional vibration). To install the crank pulley, you need the tool on the link below.

Thanks guys. How does that puller tool attach to the pulley? I'm just swapping a 2 groove for a 1 groove pulley so I don't want to remove the harmonic balancer also. I'll have to look again, but I don't think there's any room to get a nut between the back of the pulley and the balancer. Do I have to remove the balancer too?
