Pulley belt sizing?

Trying to size a belt for an old table saw that I neither have the old belt or a size for. It's mounted to a handmade stand so original specs would be irrelevant. How would I go about getting the right size belt and would an automotive belt be ok?

Or you could (if the belt tension is adjustable) ....
adjust to the center....
then measure the length around the 2 pulleys....
this will give you an approximate length, you might have to exchange the belt, but its a starting point.

I saw one of those online, wasn't sure if it was accurate. I ciphered I could calculate 1/2 the circumferences of the pulleys and add in twice the length twixt the pulleys too.

That would probably get you close.

Consider a link type belt replacement easily found at woodworking stores all over country. You can adjust link numbers easily and they spin quiet.

Run a string around the pullys and measure how long it is,then measure how wide the pullys are. That will get you close.

Use rope instead of string, rope will fill the grove whereas string goes down into the grove and will gives a short measurement. Two more ideas masking tape it will lay on the outside of the pulley, a seamstress tape like they use to measure your waste

Yes auto belt will work just fine , easy access use em on my compressor.

Works for equal sized pulleys. If pulleys are not equal then you will have to cipher in the wrap distance in degrees plus the angle of the belt to the line between the center-line of the two shafts.

Gates is a good brand and the make the standard Black and the Green stripe heavy duty. They have a measuring device that will determine the correct length with the rope cut to length or marked with a pen.

The calculator shared earlier did the trick, belt works perfect.

I find an old belt that fits the pulley groove and cut it ti length, then measure.
