Finally have a place to call home. My wife and I just bought a hundred year old farm for our first home and it is now my job to get it clean and working. I've got 4 out buildings and more questions than I can list. I've already changed almost all the bulbs for LED and Dad is coming by to help fix a roof on Friday.

This is the space I'm going to use as my first shop. It used to be a turd shed. They would park the manure spreader under the conveyor belt and fill it up. I removed the conveyor and washed most of the poo out. The space leaks pretty bad the whole back wall has dirt behind it for the. I've also got patch the door the conveyor came through.

Here are some more pictures of what I'm working with. I'm open to suggestions on how to repair the chunk missing by there door. I think I can just brick up the conveyor hole. As for the water ingress I think I need to put a gutter on the back wall and route the water away from that wall more. Currently the big barn drains onto the shop roof and down the wall.

Probably chickens ducks geese and maybe rabbits for now. I plan on using the calving barn for them though. This is the only space that really fits a truck well. Eventually I might move into the pole shed but it needs work before it'll be dry. I'll add more pictures soon.

If you get a lot of snow, gutters might not be the best choice in that location, will likely tear them off the building in a short amount of time.

I'm about a hundred miles from Green Bay. I grew up an hour south of here and I'd never heard of that being an issue. What causes that? Just filling with ice or? The gutter in question is about 6 inches from the ground so it'd be an easy repair.

I have gutters on numerous buildings and have never had issues with them being torn off. Of of those buildings is a 48'x112' hayshed with a gutter along one 112' side and snow hasn't been an issue.

That guy was a smart dude with the indoor parking/loading area for the manure spreader. Growing up we parked the spreader in a shed in the winter when it was cold so it wouldn't be exposed and freeze as hard. That little shed saved that guy a lot of headaches !!

We got about 3 acres. They split off the 17 acres of farmland that had been attached. We got about a third an acre of corn field and all the buildings.

I'm pretty sure I went by pretty close to your place a week or 2 ago we were on 94 all the way from Oregon/Washington to Wisconsin.

Lights! 4ft LED strip lights 8 for 60 bucks on Amazon. I love these things. Good lighting makes working in here so much better.

This morning dad came up and we patched the roof on the pole shed, cleaned the gutters, put a surround on the porch and removed the old analog TV antenna. The wife also helped me get another LED dusk to dawn light in.

I saw your pictures, and said that looks like Wisconsin. Specificity where my parents grew up. Mom was from Plymouth, and my dad is from Cleveland.

This morning my wife's uncle came up and helped me brick up a window that was under grade and letting in water. We also reinforced a broken beam in the cow barn. I've got a lot of grading to do to prevent further water intrusion. As soon as I find some kind of Earth mover and a source for some clay...

Congratulations, your place is very beautiful.
And it's even nicer when you repair it and how great it is to be able to gather a lot of information online now.
And with that much less money, get it back to its original shape.

Backhoes are not the greatest machine for digging or loading, but the price is often cheap, and they are so handy for everything. I couldn't imagine being without one on a farm if you don't have another loader tractor.

I'm not sure of your budget but a decent used skid steer can be had for around $10k . A skid steer is the single most used piece of equipment I own.

Backhoes are not the greatest machine for digging or loading, but the price is often cheap, and they are so handy for everything. I couldn't imagine being without one on a farm if you don't have another loader tractor.

We had a 1990 John Deere 310c tractor backhoe for a long time and put a ton of hours on it. It was a good machine if it's all you have as it can do pretty much anything but will take a bit of time for certain things. We ended up selling it once we purchased a mini excavator. I wish we still had it.
