Purdy and Wooster Mini 4 1/2" Rollers Not Interchangeable

Home Depot got me.
I have a Purdy mini 3/4" diameter roller frame and a few of their rollers and they fit together very nicely.
Needing a quick replacement roller I picked up what appeared the same except for the Wooster name at HD today.
They are not interchangeable and the best I can figure is that the Wooster is tapered inside so it does not go on the Purdy holder without forcing it and then not all the way.
The only way I could get it off was with the vice and vice grips.
These companies are a PIA.

Haha, I literally just dealt with this same problem this week. I’m probably going to stick with Purdy because they sell them at Menards, and I’m there far more often.

Don't forget there's the frameless ones that spin on the rod (in 4" and 6"), and the large diameter frame short rollers in different lengths too. There's no standards other than the fact that the frameless ones seem to come on super springy 1/4" rods.

Purdy has been in and out of HD a bunch over the years. I've got a few Wooster brushes that are the cream of the crop. Some Purdy stuff is up there too, but I'm less keen on their unfinished handles.

OTHER THAN your standard, 9-inch roller, NO other rollers are "standard" size. They are ALL different.
It's like those cheapie "disposable" plastic food containers you get at the supermarket: You can buy them in 90 different brands, and NONE of the lids are interchangeable.
Same with mini paint rollers: damn things are ALL different.
So when you go to buy refills, you're going to find you have to buy the whole nine yards all over again: handle and rollers.

Solution: throw everything away when you're done with the job, because next time they'll be stocking a different brand or size and you're not going to find a roller to fit that handle you still own.

Or buy 2x the number of roller refills you will need, and find out, when you need them next time, that it appears the dog used it as a chew toy.

^ Last time I worked a gig where I needed to use one of those "mini-rollers", I weeded through my "brush" box I keep all that stuff in and threw away three different "mini" handles.

Possibly worth noting:
I bought "mini" handles and refills at ACE a few years back for another project.
When I re-painted the hallways at the studio (last October) the refills ACE had in stock fit the handles I had purchased from them less than three years prior.
That's an option you might want to look at. Whether or not they'll be the same next time, I have no clue.

I just wait for a sale. It seems like it's every couple weeks through the summer here. I got exterior stain a couple weeks ago at 35% off plus a $10 discount for spending over $50. Hard to beat that.

I've been through many different stain brands over our lives but SW Woodscapes has been the best. It's easy to put on (goes far using a sponge applicator), covers well, does not smell and lasts very long. The warranty is 8 years but I don't press it that long.
